Britney to auction MTV outfit for Haiti

Pop princess Britney Spears is willing to join the celeb bandwagon who are making their own contribution to help the earthquake victims in Haiti by auctioning off the dress she wore to the 2008 MTV awards.

The 'Toxic' hitmaker had worn a sparkly silver minidress to the awards night and had walked away with three awards for her video 'Piece of Me'.Spears had placed a request to be allowed to hold the auction during her conservatorship hearing in an Los Angeles courtroom on Friday, reported Radar online.

Superheroines or female fatales?

It's all about unleashing your inner diva at iDiva this month. So what better way to do it than with a tinge of craziness? While some of us wish to be Alice and get lost in the wonderland, others wish to be Claire Bennet and have the power of rapid cellular regeneration, recover from almost any injury within seconds.

Since we
daydream about superpowers so much, we decided to visualise some of our leading divas in the garb of the most popular superwomen of all times and this is what we pictured…

Who: Storm

Her powers:She primarily holds the power to control the weather. She also possesses the "psionic" ability to control earthly and extraterrestrial ecosystems.

The actress: Kareena Kapoor.

Who better to the play the skilled and cunning Weather Witch than our blue-blooded Kareena? You can easily imagine her in hand-to-hand combat with her adversaries and pinning them down effortlessly just by her sheer will power. With her size zero frame, she's bound to waft in the winds without using any super power!

Who: Catwoman

Her powers:Agility and speed. She also has a custom cat-themed car called the "Cat-illac" and her weapon is a whip.

The actress: Bipasha Basu we say is the purrrr-fect choice.

Only she can nail the role of revenge-bent babe dressed in a cat suit who seduces both Bruce Wayne and Batman. Say what?

Who: Poison Ivy

Her powers: She is immune to all poisons and viruses. Her body produces pheromones that make people susceptible to mind control.

The actress: Aishwarya Rai.

Ivy has the ability to seduce any man to her will, be it Batman or Superman. And doesn't Ash have the history of doing the same, that too in real life? Just like Ivy, she is stunning and alluring and the world does wonder what kind of love potion does this mistress of spice give to the men in her life that they fall for her hook, line and sinker?

Who: Elektra

Her powers: Elektra has a strong knowledge of martial arts and weaponry particularly Ninjutsu. Her abilities also include low-level mind control and telepathic communication.

The actress: Priyanka Chopra.

Don and Drona proved that this girl can kick ass. She is one of the fittest actresses in town and if anyone can portray the agility and dexterity of Elektra, it’s her. Plus she has jumped from one man to the next with the same agility she has shown in her gravity-defying filmi moves. Need we say more?

Who: Wonderwoman

Her powers: She can FLY. She also has the ability talk to animals. And she has a Magic Lasso (or Golden Lasso) that forces anyone it captures to OBEY and tell the truth.

*The actress:* We thought of Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta, Katrina Kaif and even Kajol but for some reason Hema Malini crept in our mind and somehow she as Wonderwoman felt apt.

Her whip wielding Basanti character in Sholay was no less an ability than the bullet deflecting Wonderwoman, wouldn't you agree?

So hailing the ball of femme fatales, you too unleash your inner Diva and let us know which superheroine or which superpower you would like to have?

WORLD'S LARGEST SNAKE

An Indonesian caught a 14.85m long Python weighing 447kg. Up to now, this python is regarded as the world’s largest snake. It was captured in the jungle of the western part of Sumatra Island. The owner of the snake later sold this snake to a park and the staff at the park gave it a name as “guihua”. “guihua” here, in general, refers to a type of a flower. That is why this name may sound gentle to hear, but it is indeed a scary scene when “guihua” opens its mouth while attacking its enemy. It can swallow the whole body of a human in a very short period. According to the Indonesian media, an examination on its length, weight and species has been carried out extensively by Indonesia’s National Institute of Science, Institute of Agriculture and other academic institutions. Many scientists said that they had never seen such a long snake.

According to the sources of Indonesia, it is not an easy task to subdue such a gigantic snake. It usually needs an accumulation of 8 to 10 strong men’s energy to get hold of this snake. Previously, the Guinness World Records has recorded the world’s longest snake which has a length of 10m. However, this snake was shot in 1912 in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the scientists disclosed that the discovery of this world’s longest snake is the Southeast Asia’s indigenous snake. This snake is commonly seen in Indonesia, Philippines but generally its length hardly reached to such extend.

World's Biggest, Strongest & Tallest dog's

Hercules: The World's Biggest Dog Ever According to Guinness World RecordsHercules was recently awarded the honorable distinction of Worlds Biggest Dog by Guinness World Records. Hercules is an English Mastiff and has a 38 inch neck and weighs 282 pounds. With "paws the size of softballs" (reports the Boston Herald), the three-year-old monster is far larger and heavier than his breed's standard 200lb. limit. Hercules owner Mr. Flynn says that Hercules weight is natural and not induced by a bizarre diet: "I fed him normal food and he just grew".... and grew. and grew.

STRONG :

Believe it or not dis dog is actually a girl dog..and she's not on
steriods or anythang bt she was born with a genetic defect that caused her 2 be "double muscled"..pretty cool huh!!! This dog is a fluke although it's very strong there is no proven worlds strongest dog and it lives happily at a house with a peaceful owner.

TALLEST:

Gibson's owner, Sandy Hall, said she never dreamed Gibson would turn out to be the planet's
tallest dog. She said the dog is a gift. "I've had Danes since 1981," Hall said. "I've never seen anything like this --ever. "Several neighbors in the county know about the record-
holding dog, which dwarfs an average-sized golden retriever. "I've seen him twice now, and he's a really tall dog," a neighbor said.

Vestalife Ladybug2 and Firefly

Vestalife Ladybug2 and Firefly

[CES 2010] You might remember Vestalife's ladybug, a very cool speaker system for iPod. At CES 2010, Vestalife has launched multiple new designs, including the LadyBug 2 and the very cool Firefly. All the new designs are bigger, which basically means "bigger" sound - not that the old one was bad. The new ones are also compatible with the new iPhones and iPod touch, so that's an upgrade that opens a lot of doors to Vestalife. Admit it, it’s cute no?

Light Touch Pico Projector Creates Touchscreen Out of Anything

Rumors of the Light Touch projection system have been in the pipeline for a little while, and we finally got to do a hands-on demo with the device here at CES. The basics: Light Touch converts any flat surface into a 10-inch screen, from tabletops to walls -- and it's interactive. The surprisingly bright, high-resolution image responds to touch, thanks to an infrared sensing system that tracks the user's finger movements with relatively rapid response.

Using a holographic laser projection (HLP) system, Light Touch displays images without scanning, resulting in a clearer picture. Since the company claims that the "image is always in focus," we picked it up, tilted it, and attempted to prove them wrong. But readers, LBO speaks the truth. Check out our hands on video after the break.Currently running both Windows CE and Adobe Flash Lite, Light Touch is a technology that software developers will be able to employ with relative ease. LBO announced at CES that Adobe, Toshiba, and Microsoft -- among others -- have all agreed to support further development of Light Touch applications.

The potential applications for Light Touch are untold. In our demo, we took a look at a prototype menu app, which restaurateurs could use in place of physical menus, allowing diners to order directly from the surface of a tabletop. A wall-mounted Light Touch acted as a virtual closet from which to pick a digital ensemble. On the consumer level, Light Touch would be ideal for the kitchen, enabling you to sift through recipes without the fear of dirtying a screen with greasy fingers. And since the Light Touch has both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capability, it's able to connect to back-end systems, as well as to the Internet. At this point, Light Touch boasts 2 gigabytes of flash memory to hold software and media, but that's sure to grow.

We did notice some lags and lockups (although minimal) in the interface, but we imagine these poor projectors must be completely exhausted from the throngs of tech nerds flocking to the LBO booth to play. After their six years in development, we expect those kinks to all be sorted out by the time it goes on sale. Unfortunately, we're not sure when that will be, or how much the thing will cost.

Hunting newborn tests for super-rare gene diseases

WASHINGTON – At his first birthday, John Klor couldn't sit up on his own. A few months later, he was cruising like any healthy toddler — thanks to a special diet that's treating the North Carolina boy's mysterious disease.
What doctors initially called cerebral palsy instead was a rare metabolic disorder assaulting his brain and muscles, yet one that's treatable if caught in time.
Urged by John's family, Duke University researchers are working on a way to test newborns for this disease, called GAMT deficiency. It's part of a growing movement to add some of the rarest of rare illnesses — with such names as bubble-boy disease, Pompe disease, Krabbe disease — to the battery of screenings given to U.S. babies hours after birth.
"There's other children out there that can be helped and be saved," says Melissa Klor, John's mother.
But just how many illnesses can that tiny spot of blood pricked from a baby's heel really turn up? And not all are treatable, so when is population-wide testing appropriate?
"Families go through these odysseys of diagnosis" to learn what's wrong with a child, says Dr. Alan Fleischman of the March of Dimes, who's part of a government advisory committee studying what to add to the national screening list. Often, "they argue that they would have been better off knowing even if there were no treatments."
Since 2004, specialists have urged that every U.S. newborn be tested for 29 rare but devastating genetic diseases, using that single heel-prick of blood, to catch the fraction who need fast treatment to avoid retardation, severe illness, even death. States gradually adopted those recommendations, and federal health officials say the testing catches about 5,000 babies a year with disorders ranging from sickle cell anemia to maple syrup urine disease and others with such tongue-twisting names that they go by acronyms like LCHAD.

Slowly vanishing tigers

Human welfare and economic development in Asia depends on the same clean water, clean air, natural flood controls and other forest resources that tigers need. Because tigers are poised at the top of the food chain, if we can maintain healthy tiger populations in Asia’s wild lands, we can ensure that there are healthy habitats and prey populations present to support them. Tigers need extensive, intact landscapes and act as an umbrella species — by saving tigers you save other plants and animals that share their range. Renowned ecologist E.O. Wilson eloquently captures the flip side of this coin: “Tigers…are predestined by their perch at the top of the food web to be big in size and sparse in numbers. They live on such a small portion of life’s available energy as always to skirt the edge of extinction, and they are the first to suffer when the ecosystem around them starts to erode.”

Tigers are also majestic symbols for many ancient and modern cultures. Tiger images emblazon temples throughout Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, Thailand and Tibet; every twelfth year of the Chinese calendar is dedicated to the tiger; and India’s national animal is also the namesake of Bangladesh’s national cricket team, The Bengal Tigers. Given the tremendous historical and cultural significance of these animals, it is tragically ironic that Asia’s “tiger economies” are now prospering at the expense of wild tigers.
